This weekend was the opening for Blake Lively's latest movie, The Shallows, a thriller about a young woman who is stranded on a rock while being hunted by a great white shark. It's a bit of a departure for Lively, who might best be known for her role in the TV series Gossip Girl. For anyone worried that Lively will be committing to even more dramatic roles, fear not! She remembers her roots and is definitely down for another sharing of the pants. The actress recently revealed that there's a pretty good chance of seeing a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3 in the future.
Blake Lively recently appeared on the latest episode of The Jesse Cagle Interview, hosted by the Editorial Director of People and Entertainment Weekly. While on the show, Blake got to reminiscing about her time on Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which was her first big acting gig. Cagle asked her if after doing two Traveling Pants movies if she'd ever want to return for a third. It looks like her answer is a definite yes if it means reuniting with her co-stars Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, and America Ferrera. She said:
This is your lucky day, Pants fans! It looks like even after eight years, there's still a good amount of interest in a third movie. As fans of the property might know, the movies are based on a series of books, which currently consists of five novels. The fifth novel is set when the Sisterhood is in their 30s which lines up quite nicely with the real world. Blake Lively was 16 when the first movie came out and now she's 29 with a second kid on the way. That's pretty good timing. This movie might as well have been written in the stars.
We're assuming that all the members of the Sisterhood would be up for coming back for the third time, schedules permitting. Alexis Bledel recently wrapped up Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, while America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn can be seen in episodes of Superstore and Inside Amy Schumer, respectively. It sounds like the four of them still keep in touch and remain close. You only need to look at this picture of the four of them that Amber Tamblyn tweeted to see that they still have chemistry. However, the traveling pants are nowhere to be seen, so there might be some tension there. Hopefully, they can get that diva to come back.
We'll make sure to keep you updated on all Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3 news as it becomes available. In the meantime, keep the message of the series close to your heart: friends might come and go, but pants last forever --at least I think that's the theme. I've never seen these movies.
