When You Can Expect The Next Star Wars: Rogue One Trailer
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has a lot of expectations set for its December release, particularly with the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens still rippling through our universe. Though fans are probably extremely eager to get a new look at the Gareth Edwards directed spin-off, what with the pervasive news about reshoots changing the tone of the supposedly gritty project. Well, you'll only have to wait another 10 days, as apparently he next trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be premiering on July 15th, during a Star Wars related special on ABC.
More specifically, the scoop announcing this fact over at Making Star Wars has the name of the special that you can tune into that Friday to see your latest look at the latest entry in the Star Wars canon. Though if the title, "Secrets Of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey," sounds familiar, you're definitely not alone.
As it turns out, this lengthy behind the scenes special is one of the extras on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens' home video release. While this might seem like a cop-out to some, the idea of airing a behind the scenes special on a Friday night is pretty novel, especially considering Star Wars is still as popular as it's always been.
Not to mention, with the newest trailer to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being run alongside a special for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is obviously a pairing that's too good to ignore. With Friday nights usually being the traditional "death slot" for programming, only the most tested and loyal of demographics can make it a successful night.
So running a Star Wars bonanza should give Disney's TV network, ABC, a bump in the ratings, as you know everyone will tune in until the very end for those 3 minutes of footage. Though again, we wonder how different the tone in the new trailer will be versus that of the older trailer, which can be seen below.
Premiering the latest trailer to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story during a prime time TV special is an interesting move, considering Star Wars Celebration has always been the presumed home of the next exclusive look at the journey towards stealing the Death Star plans. However, when you take into account the fact that July 15th is also the start of Star Wars Celebration, and that London is the home of the festivities this time around, a picture starts to form.
So while the TV audiences at home will get the new footage that Friday night, you conventioneers will more than likely get to see that same footage before anyone else does. In either case, we'll see the trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes its bow on July 15th, more than likely during "Secrets Of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey", which airs at 8:00 PM EST on ABC. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16th.
