Star Wars 8: The Hilarious Way Daisy Ridley Is Protecting One Of Rey’s Secrets
Spoilers are essentially the ultimate curse words in today's society. With social media documenting moviegoers and TV viewers' every thought, it's nearly impossible to see your favorite movie or show without something being spoiled, unless you watch opening night. As such, actors who make up popular casts have to go out of their way to keep the integrity and spoilers in house. While this normally includes being tight lipped during press junkets, it now appears that Star Wars' Daisy Ridley has to take things another step forward.
While posting an Instagram video featuring her workout, Daisy Ridley went to great lengths to reveal perhaps the least important spoiler that could ever be: Rey's new hairstyle. So while working out and sweating, she wore a pillow case around her head and sweat it out. Check out the Instagram post, in all of its glory below.
That's right. Even Rey's hairstyle is considered too big of spoiler for the likes of Daisy Ridley's Instagram. That's some serious dedication to secrecy.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was pretty amazing at keeping its plot on the down low. While all we did for months was pick apart each teaser and image, the marketing team and trailer editors didn't actually reveal much of anything up until the movie was finally released. Instead, certain footage and moments from the upcoming movie were used in rotations for the various commercials, and occasionally a new shot or two would reveal itself and set the internet into a frenzy. And through all of it, we still knew next to nothing about how Luke, Han, and Leia would team up with the new generation in an attempt to fight the Dark Side.
This smart marketing and careful curation of trailers is a stark transition to the way most Hollywood blockbusters chose to advertise themselves. A common problem in the industry is that trailers simply reveal too much. This was certainly a problem with the DC Extended Universe's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where even the "surprise" third act including Doomsday was revealed early on. Once we knew which conflicts will be presenting themselves throughout that movie's (rather long) runtime, much of the excitement of going into the dark theater was ruined.
What do you think of the secrecy of Daisy Ridley's mystery hairstyle? Is this spoiler-free way of living too extreme? Sound off in the comments section below.
The next journey into a galaxy far, far away will be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which flies into theaters December 16h, 2016.
