The Main Suicide Squad Villain Has Been Revealed, Get The Details
It's no secret that David Ayer's upcoming DCEU adventure, Suicide Squad, revolves around the villains of the DC universe. A love letter to all things bad in the world of comics, Suicide Squad will allow the bad guys to take center stage in an unprecedented way. That being said, there still needs to be a main bad guy for the worst heroes ever to properly square off against. Many of those details have remained under wraps for quite some time, but it now seems that the main antagonist of Suicide Squad has finally come to light -- and it's not quite what we expected.
According to a new report from Comicbook.com, it appears that the primary antagonist of Suicide Squad will take the form of The Adversary. The details regarding the exact nature of The Adversary remains somewhat sparse, but it seems the basic concept is that it is essentially an old-fashioned, godlike monster steeped thoroughly in ancient magic and mysticism. Those close to the production who have spoken about the villain referred to it with androgynous terms like "they," lending to the sense that it's more of a force and less of an individual like Darkseid or Steppenwolf. There IS precedent in DC lore for a character known as Adversary, but what we know about the force in the coming movie appears to be something new and entirely different from what we've seen before.
Ultimately it makes plenty of sense that The Adversary is the primary villain of Suicide Squad when we consider what we already know about the film. The trailers have made it abundantly clear that the team will face off against some sort of otherworldly, magical force throughout the movie, so The Adversary's description makes perfect sense. Additionally, the mindless, zombie-like minions shown rushing Task Force X in all of the film's marketing material have been specifically referred to as the "Eyes of the Adversary" in previous news reports. It looks like the bad guy of Suicide Squad was hiding in plain sight and we never even knew about it.
Theories and notions about the primarily antagonist of Suicide Squad have become incredibly common and varied in recent months. At first everyone assumed that Jared Leto's Joker would represent the main bad guy of the film, and then it looked like Cara Delevingne's Enchantress might take center stage as the villainess. Now it seems that, while they will indeed represent threats to the team at various points throughout the course of the film, the ultimate end game for Task Force X is to take down this ancient force known as The Adversary.
With less than a month until Suicide Squad properly hits theaters, we have a feeling that plenty more awesome information is on the way. Make sure to stay tuned for more details related to the upcoming DC super villain team-up, and check out the worst heroes ever when Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
