Matt Damon Would Be Willing To Do A Superhero Movie, Under One Condition
Matt Damon already has a superhero role of sorts in Jason Bourne, but would the actor ever don a pair of tights? It turns out he might be willing to do so, and his one requirement seems to be entirely doable. While the actor thinks the available superhero well is fairly dry, it sounds like he'd take whatever role was available, as long as he was being directed by his buddy Ben Affleck. Let's make this happen Hollywood.
The "which superhero would you like to be" question is the last bastion for interviewers who are out of things to ask. Nonetheless, every actor and actress in Hollywood is asked the question two or three times a year. Maybe it was this repetitive nature that recently led Matt Damon to answer it a little differently. Speaking with the Irish Examiner, Damon said that he didn't know what hero he could play, as most of them appear to be spoken for at this point, but the thing that would absolutely get him in front of a Marvel or DC universe camera would be taking direction from his old buddy Ben Affleck.
If only Ben Affleck had plans to direct a superhero movie then we could have some real fun. Oh, wait. He totally does. Affleck is currently working on the script for his own standalone Batman movie, which he will then be directing. Now, it's true that there aren't expected to be much in the way of new superhero roles available for that film. Matt Damon is unfortunately too old to play a new Robin. But if he's willing to play a superhero if directed by Affleck, certainly he'd be just as willing to play a villain, right? Batman has the greatest rogues gallery of enemies of any character in the history of comic books. Certainly, we can find a solid role for Damon here. Since Affleck is playing an older, more grizzled Batman, Damon can be an older, more grizzled enemy. How about Matt Damon as Edward Nygma? Any takers?
There are heroic options as well. As far as we can tell there is still no Green Lantern in the DCEU, and as one of the rumors that we've heard for the eventual Green Lantern Corps movie was that the film version of Hal Jordan would be an older character, with younger lanterns filling out the crew. Matt Damon for Hal Jordan? It could work. Now we just need Ben Affleck to direct more DC movies.
We would love to see Matt Damon and Ben Affleck work together again. Adding Affleck behind the camera in a superhero movie would make the situation even better. At the end of the day, we don't care if the two are fighting against each other, or alongside each other.
