Check Out The First Images Of Joker And Robin In The Lego Batman Movie
Batman was The Lego Movie's prime scene stealer back in 2014, so it wasn't surprising when he got his own spinoff movie for 2017. However, the Caped Crusader won't be the only DC character getting into hilarious hijinks next year. The Lego Batman Movie will also include several notable members from the hero's supporting cast, including his adversary, The Joker, and his sidekick, Robin. Now we finally have our first look at these iconic characters in their cinematic Lego forms.
Here we have a Joker who actually looks a little creepier in Lego look than I would have expected and a Robin who's traded in his domino mask for a pair of goggles. Other new Lego Batman Movie pictures posted on USA Today include Joker riding around in a "General Patton" car with his girlfriend Harley Quinn and Robin getting overexcited about being in the Batmobile, much to Batman's dismay.
Along with the images came some new details about what to expect from the Clown Prince of Crime and the Boy Wonder. Starting with the former, most Batman fans see Joker, voiced here by Zach Galifianakis, as the Dark Knight's arch-nemesis, but that won't be the case in The Lego Batman Movie. According to director Chris McKay, Batman takes every opportunity to make fun of the clown's supposed badness, which soon leads Joker to launch an attack against all of Gotham City. McKay explained:
As for Robin, a.k.a. Dick Grayson, voiced by Michael Cera, he'll enter the picture when Bruce Wayne accidentally adopts the boy at a charity auction, and his overwhelming enthusiasm is going to throw the billionaire's playboy's life for a loop. Here's what Chris McKay said about Robin and Michael Cera's voice performance:
Dick Grayson immediately starts causing trouble upon being brought to Wayne Manor, including breaking into Bruce Wayne's wardrobe and creates his Robin suit out of a Reggae Man costume. Of course, Joker and Robin are just two of the Batman characters who will appear alongside The Lego Batman Movie's eponymous hero. The movie's cast also includes Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl and Mariah Carey as the Gotham City mayor. Some of Batman's Justice League teammates will also appear, and Chris McKay revealed in the latest report that Batman's rogues gallery is going to be "completely filled out in Lego," so expect a lot of DC Comics representation in Lego form come early next year.
The Lego Batman Movie hits theaters on February 10, 2017.
