These days, most people are familiar with Ben Affleck as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, but the actor has been keeping himself busy with other projects when not running around in a cape and cowl. This fall, he's starring in The Accountant, director Gavin O'Connor's latest feature. The movie's first trailer came out two months ago, and now we have a second preview showing just how weird and badass Affleck's last role of the year is.
The Accountant's latest trailer from Warner Bros reacquaints us with Affleck's Christian Wolff, a financial consultant with highly advanced cognitive skills, described in the official synopsis as a "mathematics savant." The trailer wastes no time in showing off how fast he can crunch numbers, working on the same level as geniuses like Einstein and Mozart. While he looks like a normal accountant on the outside, he actually uses his talents to assist various criminal organizations, or as J.K. Simmons' character, Ray King puts it, to "cook the books for some of the scariest people on the planet."
Soon after Anna Kendrick's Dana Cummings discovers who he really is, Christian finds himself being targeted by the government, forcing him to take a legitimate job for a robotics company. However, once he learns about some discrepancy in their books, he finds himself hunted down by the same type of seedy people he's worked for before. The only way to get out of this alive is to break out the guns and rain hell on his pursuers. Yes, this accountant is skilled with more than just a marker and calculator. The movie's cast also includes Daredevil's Jon Bernthal, Arrow's Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow.
Ben Affleck has made a name for himself since 2007 for directing the hit movies Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, but he hasn't forgotten his acting roots. Say what you will about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but his version of the Dark Knight was one of the frightening versions yet. This fall, Affleck is continuing of ass-kicking with The Accountant, and even though Christian Wolff doesn't wear a mask, this trailer shows that he's clearly not just a smart guy in glasses. He's also learned the necessary skills and stockpiled the crucial tools to make defend himself. The movie looks like it will be a good blend of action and thrills for the fall crowd who are looking for some extra excitement in the theater.
