New Video Shows Every Mistake In Batman v Superman, And There Are A Lot
It's a somewhat difficult to be a DC fan these days. After years of critical acclaim with Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, the DC universe has fallen on hard times when it comes to the silver screen. No film epitomizes that idea more than Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which definitively polarized fans and critics when it hit theaters in March. No matter what you think of the recent superhero smack down, it's a very flawed movie -- and the folks at CinemaSins finally decided to completely eviscerate it. Check out the video below to see more.
That's about as brutal as the CinemaSins treatment can get. Running well over 21 minutes long, the above video chronicles each and every problem with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in excruciating detail. The sins don't even wait until the end of the opening credits; it tears the film apart from beginning to end. Everything from the overuse of slow motion, to the somewhat overwhelming visual style of Zack Snyder, to the simple fact that Wonder Woman's arrival at the end is a total use of deus ex machina. None of the film's problems go overlooked.
It's worth noting that despite all of the backlash and obvious issues with the film, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has managed to become something of a cult classic over the course of the last few months. Although critics have not exactly provided the warmest reception for Dawn of Justice (or any recent DC movie for that matter), fans have still responded well to the universe that Warner Bros. has created. Just look at the recent fan petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes over the negative critical reaction to Suicide Squad and you will have a pretty clear understanding of this phenomenon.
Regardless of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice's issues, we have to say that it might not deserve all of the hate that it receives. Is it a terribly flawed film? Absolutely. Has it completely derailed the DCEU? Absolutely not. The silver screen DC universe has experienced some growing pains, but looking at Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad side by side, it's fairly easy to see where Warner Bros. wants to go from here.
Ultimately, the flaws in Batman V Superman could wind up becoming the thing that saves the DCEU in the long run. The folks at Warner Bros. recently realized that they had a bit of a quagmire on their hands, and as such they made some serious behind-the-scenes changes by promoting Geoff Johns to President of DC Entertainment, and keeping a closer eye on the production of future DC movies like Justice League. We're not sure if these decisions will make casual audiences fall in love with the DCEU, but it's a step in the right direction.
Whether or not you consider yourself a fan of Batman V Superman, it's hard to deny the film's flaws. The above video does a meticulous job of chronicling its issues, but even the most die hard fans of the recent DC film should be able to laugh at it.
