Jennifer Lawrence And Chris Pratt Make Space Travel Beautiful In First Passengers Photo
When it comes to the science fiction genre, few concepts have captured the minds of millions quite like outer space. It's vast, it's dark and it's full of possibility. However, throw Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence into outer space, and it also starts to look damn good. The first good look at their upcoming film, Passengers, has finally hit the web, and it has us incredibly intrigued. Check it out below and see for yourself.
Recently released by EW, the above photo represents our first good look at the upcoming sci-fi adventure, Passengers. In what appears to be a very intense scene (at least for one of them), we see Chris Pratt's character, Jim, wearing a space suit conversing with Jennifer Lawrence's Aurora. It's not much to go by but it's definitely a start.
The overarching premise for Passengers should be enough to give just about anybody anxiety. Taking place in the future, the sci-fi adventure follows a spaceship carrying thousands of passengers to a distant colony on a foreign planet. Something eventually goes wrong with the ship's machinery (because space movies) and two passengers eventually find themselves woken up from cryogenic sleep 60 years too early. By now you've probably guessed: these two passengers are Jennifer Lawrence's Aurora and Chris Pratt's Jim.
Although Passengers will feature a fairly strong supporting cast consisting of actors like Michael Sheen and Laurence Fishburne, given the film's premise, it will likely lean on the strength of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence's performances. For any other pair of stars that might seem like a tall order, but we have every faith in these two young talents to get the job done.
Over the last few years, both Pratt and Lawrence have become two of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood. Pratt has risen above his comedy roots and taken on numerous stellar dramatic roles in movies like Jurassic World and Zero Dark Thirty, while Lawrence has even received four Oscar nominations and one win in the last five years. Additionally, both have become household names for their recent stints as headliners in major superhero movie universes -- Pratt as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and Lawrence as Mystique in 20th Century Fox's X-Men universe.
It's worth noting that the theme of space travel has experienced a major resurgence at the movies in recent years. From Interstellar to The Martian, the science fiction genre has seen a serious boom, as more and more filmmakers seem intent on tackling themes of exploration among the stars. Considering Passengers' star power, subject matter, and December release date, the film may be trying to position itself for 2017 Oscar gold. Only time will tell.
Cinema Blend will bring you any and all relevant details related to the upcoming release of Passengers as more information becomes available to us. The sci-fi romance is currently slated to hit theaters later this year on December 21.
