We're in the middle of the superhero boom right now, and while we're not lacking in movies or TV shows, there aren't exactly many superhero theme parks. The best we've got right now is the Marvel portion of Universal Studios (which is really dated), plus some individual rides like the Superman and the Batman. Until Disney picks up the ball and adds a Marvel section to go along with Star Wars Land, we'll simply have to make do with what we've got- and Six Flags is helping out by adding more superhero themed rides to their parks.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Six Flags has revealed their 2017 lineup of new roller coasters, dark rides, and water slides coming to the theme parks 13 locations. This includes the Joker roller coaster and the Justice League themed dark ride. While the rides aren't new themselves, they'll be added to new locations, meaning you'll be able to ride these new attractions at a Six Flags near you (hopefully).
Coming to three Six Flags parks is The Joker, a fourth-dimensional roller coaster. The seats spin forward and backward as the "train navigates a zigzagging track with undulating straightaways and free-fall drops". Translation: don't eat before you get on this monster ride. The ride captures the chaotic nature of the Joker as it spins you around in every direction imaginable. The Joker ride will be heading to Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags New England (Massachusetts) and Six Flags Great America (Illinois).
The other DC themed ride is bringing some of the top comic book A-list heroes. Justice League: Battle for Metropolis 3-D is an interactive dark ride that utilizes motion-platform vehicles, animatronic figures, 3-D graphics, and laser gun gameplay. The ride is similar in function to the Spider-Man one at Universal. Players will team up with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in order to stop the plans of Lex Luthor and Joker. As you shoot your way through, the ride will twist and throw you as if you were actually there. Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Great Adventure and Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia will be the lucky parks getting that attraction.
If you'd like an idea of what you're in for with Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, then check out this POV video of the ride in action. You can't tell what's going on in the 3-D parts at all, so there's still a little mystery left for you.
These rides will assumably be up and running at some point in 2017, so check it out at your local Six Flags if you want to wait in a line for the exciting new additions.
