Could Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman Show Up In The New DC Films? Here’s What She Thinks
While comic book movie roles are the biggest thing on the screen for actors right now, some of them got into it before these cinematic universes got off the ground. Is there an option for any of them to reprise their roles? Anne Hathaway for one seems to think playing Catwoman again is unlikely in the current DC Extended Universe, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't jump at the role if given the chance.
Anne Hathaway originally played Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, the final film in his Batman trilogy. While those films were a major influence on the beginning of DC's movie universe, and Nolan himself was a producer on both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, those movies have clearly separated themselves from the Batman played by Christian Bale. It would certainly muddy the waters a bit if they brought a character back from those films, especially after casting a new Batman in Ben Affleck and a new Joker in Jared Leto.
Still, if Anne Hathaway is telling Variety that she is interested in playing Catwoman again, that's something you'd have to at least take into consideration if there are any plans to bring the character into the DCEU. Just because she played the role once doesn't mean she can't play it again. She doesn't have to be the same Catwoman from the Dark Knight trilogy simply because she's the same actress.
There is a bit of precedent for this sort of thing. When Daniel Craig took over the James Bond franchise, they rebooted the series starting the character over from the beginning of his career. However, they still cast Judi Dench as M, a role she had played with the previous Bond, Pierce Brosnan. The parallel isn't perfect, but the possibility remains. Just because the actress has played the role before, doesn't mean she can't do it again.
There is another possibility. If Anne Hathaway likes the DC Universe, then perhaps there's a part for her in it playing a different role. There are plenty of great DC woman who have yet to be cast. Perhaps there's a different villain she could play, or else she could join the other side and be a hero.
Would you like to see Anne Hathaway return as Catwoman, or is there another part in the DCEU ou think she could take on? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
