Will Doctor Strange Cameo In Thor: Ragnarok? Here's What The Director Said
Marvel movie cameos are nothing new, but they're always loved by fans. There have been recent indications that the next big walk-on role might be Doctor Strange appearing at some point during Thor:Ragnarok. Now, Thor's director has responded. He hasn't confirmed that we might see Benedict Cumberbatch show up in Thor. In fact, he's gone so far as to imply the image that got everybody talking was planted just to mess with us.
The offending photo in question was sent out via tweet from the set of Thor: Ragnarok which is currently filming in Australia. It showed Chris Hemsworth looking at a small, business card-sized piece of paper, with an address on it. The address in question was for a house on Bleeker Street in New York City, specifically, the address of Stephen Strange's Sanctum Santorum. This certainly implied that at some point Thor would need to seek out the master of the mystic arts. However, now Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has told Digital Spy that this might not be the case.
Of course, it's in Taika Waititi's best interest to draw us off on tangents, as he doesn't want to give anything away. Having said that, if there's one thing we've learned about Waititi at this point, it's that the guy has an incredible sense of humor. We can't discount the idea that he might have done it just to mess with people. Honestly, wouldn't that be a great way to make all future apparent spoilers questionable going forward? If Marvel started to throw in intentionally misleading stuff it would be difficult to trust anything again.
The Director does actually give us a third possibility in his quote. His statement implies that the shot could be a legitimate tease, but might not mean that we'll actually see Doctor Strange. As we surmised when the image originally came to light, Thor may go looking for Doctor Strange, but may not actually meet him in the movie. This could be a tease of something that we will see, just not as part of Thor:Ragnarok.
Will We see Doctor Strange in the next Thor film, or was this whole thing an elaborate prank by a director who loves a good joke? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
