Transformers 5 Puts Britain’s Loneliest Dog In A Scene, Hopefully He Won’t Explode
They say that dogs are man's best friend, but what if a dog cannot find a person to be friends with? As an animal lover, that has to be one of the most heartbreaking things you could possibly hear about. It seems that Michael Bay isn't too fond of that story either, and he recently decided to do something about it by giving the "loneliest dog in Britain" a role in the Transformers: The Last Knight. Check out the video below to see for yourself.
If that video doesn't absolutely melt your heart, then I am sorry to tell you that you're about as cold as they come. In the above behind-the-scenes featurette, we see Transformers: The Last Knight director Michael Bay directing a scene with none other than silver screen legend, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Accompanying the former Hannibal Lecter on screen is an adorable 6-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier named Freya. Freya holds the extremely unenviable distinction of being known as "Britain's loneliest dog," after spending six years in a shelter, and being rejected by thousands of potential owners. Michael Bay explains in that video that, after seeing an article about Freya's situation, he felt compelled to adopt the dog and include her in his upcoming fifth Transformers movie; and no, we don't think Freya morphs into anything else during the film.
Of course, being the astute film nerds that we are, we've also taken it upon ourselves to try and glean some great plot details from the above video as well. It seems that we now have a decent look at the character played by Sir Anthony Hopkins in the upcoming movie, and he's really looking as dapper as ever. We don't get to see too much of his performance, but judging by the WWI era tanks he's standing next to in cloudy Scotland, it seems very likely that his scenes take place some time towards the turn of the last century.
This seems to run counter to what many people had previously assumed about Sir Anthony Hopkins' role in the upcoming Transformers sequel. Given the connections that this film will have to the legend of King Arthur, it was once thought that Hopkins may portray the mythical wizard known as Merlin, but now that doesn't seem to be the case. That being said, it's entirely possible that this character actually is Merlin -- just a version of Merlin who has kept himself fashionable and stylish through the years. For now, we will just have to wait and see what further details come forward regarding the nature of his character.
After watching this video we can pretty much guarantee one very important thing: in a movie occupied by Hollywood heavy hitters like Mark Wahlberg and Sir Anthony Hopkins, Freya will be the true star. CinemaBlend will keep you up to date with all of the latest and greatest news related to the production of Transformers: The Last Knight as more information becomes available to us. The fifth installment in the long running Transformers franchise will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
