The Army Of One Trailer Features Nic Cage... Trying To Murder Osama Bin Laden... By Himself
The search for Osama Bin Laden was one of the largest manhunts in the history of the world. The mastermind behind 9/11 was chased to the end of the Earth by just about every military, law enforcement, and spy agency imaginable. However, what you probably don't know is that a lone wolf American named Gary Faulkner also chased Bin Laden -- with some pretty lackluster results. A hilarious new trailer for the film Army of One has just been released, and it chronicles Gary's absurd mission to take down the terrorist mastermind. Check out the trailer below to see for yourself.
The above trailer for Army of One promises nothing less than a complete exploration of the absurd and the insane. Based on a bizarre true story, the film follows a perpetual weirdo named Gary Faulkner (Nicolas Cage) who believes that God (Russell Brand) has compelled him to fly to Pakistan and capture Osama Bin Laden. After a brief period of training and preparation, Gary finally makes his way over to the Middle East and begins his crazy manhunt for the most famous terrorist in modern history. Spoiler alert: Gary's probably not going to get his man.
There seems to be a strong tendency towards the surreal in Army of One. Although it's based on a true story, director Larry Charles has very clearly taken ample liberties with the source material, and filtered this character through a genuinely peculiar lens. From Gary's hallucinations of God, to his weird behavior among the people of Pakistan, the film feels like an odd mash up of Zero Dark Thirty and a Jared Hess film.
Right off the bat it's worth noting that this looks like one of Nicolas Cage's best performances in a very long time. His take on Gary channels all of the insanely manic energy that we love about Cage, and truly transforms the legendary actor into a comedic force of nature. Although Cage hasn't done too many films of note in recent years, we wouldn't even be remotely surprised if this turns out to be his best performance since Big Daddy in 2010's Kick-Ass. Seriously, the movie looks that good.
The film's phenomenal supporting cast further raises the high benchmark for comedy. From Wendy McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), to Rainn Wilson (The Office), and Russell Brand (Get Him To The Greek), the movie's supporting ensemble is absolutely chock full of some of the most talented comedians working today.
We will bring you more updates related to this absolutely insane movie as they become available to us. Army of One will be available on Digital HD on November 4, while the Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film will hit shelves later in the month on November 15. Stay tune for more details!
