Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Now Has A U.S. Trailer, And It's Incredible
Marvel is starting to drop its Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage at a fast and furious clip. Minutes after a Russian version of the first teaser trailer for Guardians 2 landed, a cleaner U.S. version featuring Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Drax (Dave Bautista) speaking in a language you can now understand landed on the Web. Here it is!
James Gunn admits that a full trailer for his wildly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still to come, but knowing how thirsty fans are for a first look, they put this montage together. It's quick shots of new footage of the Guardians, complete with that aforementioned conversation between Peter Quill and Drax. In Russian, we had no clue why the literal behemoth eventually was hugging his team leader. Even in English, it's a little out of context, though it's clear that the romantic relationship between Star-Lord and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) will expand in this sequel, as Quill's talking about finding someone who "dances" like he does. Then, the Drax hug.
Outside of that dialogue, what do we see? Hard to tell. There are rapid-fire shots of the different members of Peter Quill's team, including Gamora brandishing a badass sword, and concluding with our first look at Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) in action. The sound Groot makes suggests that they will be going for a higher-pitched baby voice for the reborn character. Also, he's wearing this adorable leather jumpsuit that we were able to see in the longer San Diego Comic-Con cut of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage.
Now, having seen that Comic-Con footage, I find this first step by Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to be a little... unusual. Marvel showed off two pieces of footage in Hall H. The first was an extended prison break scene with Yondu (Michael Rooker), Rocket and Baby Groot. That sequence is hinted at here, when Yondu and Rocket are walking across a platform and bodies are falling out of the sky around them.
The second, however, was essentially a long trailer, set to Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, that really set the tone and the mood for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and I wonder why Marvel decided to lead with this montage over that one. It looks ready to air in July. Maybe that will be the longer trailer that's about to drop? If it is, you guys are in for something special.
Either way, Marvel is prepping Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for a May 5, 2017 release date. I imagine this footage will be on the big screen in front of Doctor Strange on November 4. For now, what did you guys think?
