Deadpool 2 Likely Looking At A Delay, As You Expected
Despite the fact that the original was one of the best superhero movies of the last year, Deadpool 2 has had a seriously rough time lately. Following the departure of director Tim Miller, as well as composer Junkie XL, many of the film's vital elements remain firmly in limbo. Considering the tumultuous nature of the film's development over the course of the last few weeks, it should come as no surprise that we now definitely expect delays for Deadpool 2's production. Nothing worth having ever comes easily, does it?
According to a brand new report from Collider, it appears that we can definitely expect some delays to the production of Deadpool 2. With Tim Miller no longer at the helm to steer the overall creative direction of the project, several vital aspects of production have been put on hold. In particular, it seems that the casting process for the female character, Domino, was well underway, but Miller's departure has brought that to a screeching halt. With Miller gone, things like set costume design have to be suspended until 20th Century Fox can find his replacement. Given these behind-the-scenes changes, the odds of Deadpool 2 actually starting production in March (not January, which has previously been reported) seem increasingly remote.
We can't exactly say that we're really surprised by this development. The loss of a director is a major blow to a movie, so the chances of Deadpool 2 proceeding on schedule were remote once Miller left. No matter who steps in to replace Miller, he or she will have to start from the ground up in order to add his or her own ideas and vision to the film's development. That being said, it's not time to start panicking just yet. The film is currently aiming to hit theaters in 2018, which means that there's still plenty of time to fill Miller's void and get the project back on track -- Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox just have to work fast.
It's also worth noting that Deadpool 2 may have already come close to finding a replacement for Tim Miller. We recently reported that John Wick's David Leitch has attended meetings with Ryan Reynolds and the folks at 20th Century Fox about potentially taking the reins on the upcoming Deadpool sequel. If these talks prove fruitful, then it remains entirely possible that Deadpool 2 could find itself back on track very soon with only the slightest delays.
CinemaBlend will bring you all of the latest and greatest news related to the upcoming Deadpool sequel. As of now the film is still expected to hit theaters in 2018, but we will keep you posted if any further delays occur.
