The Internet Probably Figured Out A Huge Logan Spoiler
The following contains possible spoilers for James Mangold's Logan. Stop reading now if you don't want to be spoiled on something that MAY happen in the movie.
Accompanied by the cryptic message "Silence," this photograph of Hugh Jackman with this Wolverine claws sticking out was shared by the Weapon X Instagram page, a clearinghouse for images and video from the upcoming superhero sequel Logan. Wolverine (Jackman) appears to be standing over a soldier, possibly one of the Reavers who work for semi-cyborg Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook). But it's the location of the shot that had one site speculating on what COULD happen in Logan. Seriously, stop reading now if you've made it this far by mistake.
The house in the background looks suburban. It's being speculated on ComicBook.com that this home could be the one that Logan, Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Laura (Dafne Keen) hide out in, in an effort to protect X23 from Pierce. We think we see it in the moment of the trailer when the camera pans from Logan to Laura to Charles. This is likely a moment of calm, before Pierce and the Reavers show up.
So now we see Logan outside of the house. He's standing over a fallen Reaver, and his claws are out. Is the house being attacked? Will Charles Xavier use what's left of his power to protect Wolverine and X23? Could that be this moment, spotted in the trailer, as well?
IF there is a confrontation outside of this suburban abode, and IF that is Professor X using his powers to stave off the Reavers, then THIS shot, which shows Logan bloodied and battered, in that same white t-shirt, could be Logan holding a shovel that he just used to bury a friend. And a mentor. And the founder of the X-Men.
Yep. ComicBook.com suggests that Charles Xavier will die in Logan. And now that I've seen it laid out, I instantly believe it. If you watch the Logan trailer, the breadcrumbs leading us down this path seem to point at this. Our first look at Charles (Patrick Stewart) has him in a hospital bed, with Wolverine basically keeping him alive. So much of this mission seems like a last-chance at salvation, but what if that means for Wolverine AND Professor X? And I'll be damned if I didn't notice that shovel in Logan's hand in the last shot until ComicBook pointed it out, and now I'm convinced that's what it has to be.
Here's the trailer one more time, in full.
