Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage Movie Is Coming Much Sooner Than We Thought
The Rock is one of the hardest working guys in Hollywood. He seems to have an endless number of film projects on the "to-do" list. There are so many of them that we really have no idea when we'll be seeing half of them. However, Warner Bros. just gave a date to one of those features, the video game adaptation Rampage, which is making it look like it will be what Dwayne Johnson will be working on once he finishes Jumanji. Rampage is now set for release April 20, 2018.
The Rock's box office schedule is already well planned out for about the next year. He's got Moana hitting in a couple of weeks, then next year he'll be in Fast 8 in the spring, Baywatch in the summer, and Jumanji will be his holiday offering. After that, we weren't really sure what was next, but there were no less than seven different possibilities. Now with an April 2018 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it would appear that Rampage will be next.
If you're looking forward to the movie about giant monster smashing cities then the news that Rampage is now on the docket is great, because it means the film has leaped ahead of a couple other projects that we thought we might be seeing sooner. Dwayne Johnson is also on board a sequel to his disaster movie hit San Andreas 2 and he'll also star in a movie with a script written by Shane Black that we're just short of certain is Doc Savage. We thought one of these, would be the next thing on The Rock's schedule. We're also waiting to hear what in the world is going on with Shazam. The Rock will be joining the DC Extended Universe as Black Adam...at some point. The DC universe is officially up and running with several films slated for the next few years but Shazam doesn't even have a release date this decade yet.
One expects that with an April 2018 release date, The Rock will begin filming this one fairly soon after the holidays, we're assuming the guy will take a break for the holidays. With it being very effects-heavy the post-production period will probably take time. Of course, after the Rock is done with his part of Rampage we don't know where he'll be going from there. In addition to everything else the actor is also looking at starring in an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's The Janson Directive and he's also got a few projects, like Journey to the Center of the Earth sequels and a Big Trouble in Little China remake that we're not 100% sure will ever happen, but we're not sure they won't either. There's also the little matter of two more Fast and Furious sequels. While we can't be positive The Rock will appear, we'd call it likely. Also, Jungle Cruise.
Are you happy to see Rampage get on the release schedule or is there another Dwayne Johnson film you'd rather see first? Let us know in the comments.
