James Gunn Reveals Guardians Of The Galaxy 2’s Funniest Character
Marvel movies have become known for their distinct ability to deliver the laughs, and few Marvel outings epitomize that idea more than Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn's offbeat superhero franchise is one of the most unique properties in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the upcoming sequel will definitely double down on that notion. The entire cast knows how to crack a joke, but according to the director, the film's comedic scenes really belong to Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer. Gunn explained:
James Gunn recently took to Facebook to answer fan questions about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. When a fan asked him about the quality of Dave Bautista's performance, James Gunn admitted that he think the actor's performance as Drax the Destroyer is undoubtedly the funniest aspect of the movie. The director then explained that Bradley Cooper even thought that Bautista stole the upcoming sequel in the same way that Zack Galifinakis stole every one of his scenes in The Hangover. But given Drax's difficulty with metaphors, we doubt he will offer up any rousing wolf pack speeches during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Absolutely nothing about this claim surprises us; it's already fairly consistent with the first film. Dave Bautista has proven incredibly capable as a comedic actor in recent years, and Drax represents the peak of that ability. In particular, his dynamic with Rocket Raccoon was really something special during the events of the first film. Let's hope the sequel capitalizes on that chemistry even more.
Drax the Destroyer has unquestionably become one of the most interesting characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's obviously a great source of comedic relief, but he also has one of the most personal connections to the overarching narrative of the universe. We know that Thanos is ultimately responsible for the deaths of his family, and we know that all of the MCU's heroes are on collision course with the Mad Titan in Avengers: Infinity War. Even if Drax doesn't deliver the deathblow to Thanos during the upcoming team-up film, he will likely have some amazing sequences that will really tug at our heartstrings.
We cannot even begin to describe our excitement for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the promise of some great comedic moments from Drax the Destroyer only makes the upcoming sequel more enticing. CinemaBlend will bring you more information concerning the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie as new details become available to us; the film will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
Needless to say, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 looks and sounds like one of the best Marvel films in recent memory. Check out the trailer for the upcoming cosmic adventure to get a better look at the upcoming movie!
