Did Some Luke Skywalker Dialogue From Star Wars Episode 8 Already Leak?
Fans waited through all of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to see Luke Skywalker. It looks like they may not need to wait until the release of Star Wars: Episode VIII before they hear him. There's a rumor that the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII will include a line spoken by Luke Skywalker to Rey. That line will be...
YouTuber Mike Zeroh posted the information and while he says this information has come from multiple sources, some of which he trusts, and some of which he's not sure of, he doesn't name any of them, meaning that we have to take it all with a grain of salt. However, as the line coming from Luke Skywalker is very specific, it would seem that we'll know for sure one way or the other once the trailer is released.
It's certainly would work as a line between Luke and Rey. We know that Rey's ability to use the Force was "awakened" in the first film and we can presume that her learning to use those abilities will be a focal point of the rest of the trilogy. Luke Skywalker was trying to rebuild the Jedi Order when all his students were killed by the Knights of Ren. Certainly, he will see Rey as a chance to do that once again, which would be where the line comes in.
Without any info on the sources, it's difficult to judge the credence of the rumor, though if there are truly four independent sources providing the same information then it certainly would seem to have some basis in truth. The real question though may not be what Luke Skywalker says in the trailer, but how he says it. Simply hearing his voice will be a major moment of the new trilogy as he never said a word in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He read the stage directions during the table read for the first episode of the new trilogy since there really wasn't anything else for him to do. Will he sound more or less like Mark Hamill currently sounds? Will he sound older, more traveled, or weaker? Will he sound like the confident Jedi that faced down Jabba the Hutt at the beginning of _Star Wars: The Return of the Jed_i? At this point, we have no idea but we may know soon.
The word on the street, though from the same sources, is that the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit sometime in the first quarter of 2017. We'd certainly been hoping that we may see something attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it hits in a couple weeks. If these sources are right about the line, they're likely also correct about the timing.
