Will Jai Courtney Play Captain Boomerang Again? Here's What The Actor Says
Whether you loved it or hated it, you cannot deny that Suicide Squad was packed to the brim with colorful characters. With that in mind, few of the film's heroic villains fit that description more than Jai Courtney's Digger Harkness a.k.a Captain Boomerang. The character made a phenomenal impression on audiences -- with some considering it Courtney's best performance---and that raises the question of whether or not we will ever see him again. As it turns out, Jai Courtney wants to play Boomerang in the future; he's just not positive that he will get the opportunity. The actor explained:
Jai Courtney recently sat down with We Got This Covered and admitted that, while he doesn't know what DC's plans are for Captain Boomerang, he definitely has an interest in playing the character again. Considering the fact that Suicide Squad only served as an introduction to the legendary Aussie villain, there's plenty more story to tell in which he could become a central player. He very clearly survived the events of Suicide Squad (although he wasn't too happy about where he ended up) and as such he's still a viable character that could easily be accessed at any given moment.
On one hand we can obviously understand why DC might not actually bring Jai Courtney back as Captain Boomerang. Suicide Squad was an insanely divisive movie, and as such it remains entirely plausible that DC and Warner Bros. may just want to move passed it. However, out of all the Suicide Squad elements worth jettisoning, Jai Courtney is definitely not one of them. He brought an overwhelming sense of fun to his take on Digger Harkness, and we would absolutely love to see him in a Suicide Squad sequel -- or another DC movie altogether.
Then, of course, there's the simple fact that Suicide Squad very clearly set up the rivalry between Boomerang and Ezra Miller's Flash, as well as the formation of The Rogues. It's one of the coolest scenes in the entire film, and it deserves to be expanded upon. Check it out below:
We will bring you more information concerning the future of Jai Courtney's involvement in the DCEU as more details become available to us. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will see more of Boomerang and his pink unicorn fetish in the near future. The DCEU will continue to expand when Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
