The Uncharted Movie Has Lost Its Main Actor

Video game movies have never been Hollywood's strong suit. Most have a tendency to languish in development hell, and the ones that make it to theaters tend to be incredibly mediocre. One of the most promising potential video game adaptations is the long-rumored Uncharted film. However, that project has apparently suffered a major setback, as Mark Wahlberg is not longer attached to star as Nathan drake.

Mark Wahlberg Uncharted

A new report from We Got This Covered confirms that Mark Wahlberg is officially no longer attached to the film adaptation of the Uncharted video game franchise. This revelation came about during the promotional campaign for Patriots Day, during which Wahlberg stated that, "as of now," he is not involved in the project. Wahlberg had reportedly been involved in the development of the Uncharted movie for the better part of the last five years, but now we can pretty much confirm that it's not going to happen anytime soon. Maybe he had traumatic flashbacks about the time he played Max Payne in 2008.

With Wahlberg out of the picture, the film once again finds itself catapulted back to square one without a headlining actor to play its central (and most vital) role. Nathan Drake is a modern icon in the world of video games, and the Uncharted adaptation needs to make sure that it taps an actor who can convincingly take on such a role. Mark Wahlberg was a phenomenal original choice, but now it's back to the drawing board.

Assassin's Creed Michael Fassbender

Although video game movies have never performed particularly well with audiences, it is our sincere hope that trends will change in the near future. The Michael Fassbender-fronted Assassin's Creed adaptation will hit theaters later this month, and many have held that particular project up as one of the most promising video game movies in recent memory. If the Assassin's Creed movie actually manages to make a good impression on audiences when it debuts, then it remains plausible that the Uncharted movie could have a much easier time making its way through development.
