The New Godzilla Movie Has A Title, And It Sounds Epic
There are few movie monsters more instantly iconic than Godzilla. A silver screen giant in the grandest and most literal sense, the enormous Japanese reptile has terrorized cities for decades, and definitively earned his title as the King of the Monsters. Now it seems that his newly rebooted silver screen franchise wants to honor that legacy. With that in mind, it now seems that the upcoming Godzilla sequel has officially been rebranded, and it's now known as Godzilla: King of Monsters. Get ready, kaiju fans.
A report from Screen Crush indicates that Godzilla 2 finally has a real title, and it's way more exciting than Godzilla 2. Now that the development of the long-awaited Godzilla sequel is well underway, it seems that the film has taken on the more badass moniker of Godzilla: King of Monsters. Although we don't know much about the overarching plot of the Godzilla sequel, the total seems to promise even more monster action that the original.
Although 2014's Godzilla featured some awesome action, it actually didn't feature much of the titular monster until the end of the movie -- at least compared to other Godzilla movies. Fans of the recent reboot absolutely loved the Godzilla vs. MUTO showdowns that took place during the final climax of the film, and with a title like King of Monsters, we can only assume that an entire army of new monsters will arrive to square off against everyone's favorite giant lizard.
Godzilla: King of Monsters isn't the only upcoming kaiju movie to receive a badass rebrand. Although it was original known as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, the upcoming Pacific Rim sequel has officially been retitled Pacific Rim: Uprising. No official reason has been given for the title change, but I would bet money on it having something to do with whether or not most people can properly pronounce the world "Maelstrom."
Not that we really mind any of these title changes in the slightest. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and a monster movie by any other name would be just as awesome. Who knows? May one day we will get to see these two awesome franchises crossover with one another.
We will bring you all of the latest and greatest Godzilla news as more information related to the King of the Monsters becomes available to us. Godzilla: King of Monsters will hit theaters on March 22, 2019. Stay tuned for more monstrous details!
