Sometimes an action franchise is just wild enough to be able to get away with some crazy stuff. Sometimes, they might take it a little too far. It seems that XXX 3: The Return of Xander Cage is looking to fill a void in Hollywood left by the James Bond movies. Ever since Daniel Craig and company rebooted them in a more realistic direction we've been without a secret agent with gadgets bordering on the ridiculous. Not anymore. May I present to you the motorcycle jet ski surfboard.
If there's one thing that we miss about the old school James Bond franchise, it's the insanity. The crazy gadgets, the diabolical villains and the women with silly names. This new clip from XXX: Return of Xander Cage seems to promise that the very least we'll get one of those things in this new film. It seems like it's a fairly standard motorcycle chase until the bikes reach the water, at which point the both spawn skis, allowing them to motor across the water like a jet ski. It seems a little odd that both the person being chased and the chaser both have these special motorcycles. Even if one of them stole the bike, how do they even know it has the ability to do that, much less how to turn it on? It's possible that we're already overthinking this movie.
The XXX movies have been so all over the place that it's almost difficult to call them a franchise. The first two films starred different leads and while the third brings Vin Diesel back into the fold it's been 15 years since his first turn in the series. The new film seems to be focusing more on a team of agents with Diesel's character at the head of it, rather than it being a solo effort, yet differentiating the film again. While it's hard to guess exactly what the new movie will bring because of the way things have kept changing, this clip seems to confirm that everything will be over the top which makes the movie seem like it will be pure fun.
In addition to the returning Vin Diesel, XXX: Return of Xander Cage will include Samuel L. Jackson, Ruby Rose and Donnie Yen. There was word at one point that Ice Cube, the star of XXX: State of the Union would also be returning to the franchise but thus far the trailers haven't included him. It's possible that this news was in error. It's also possible that the studio is keeping him back a surprise for the release.
