Ocean's Eight Just Added A Popular Late-Night Talk Show Host In A Mystery Role
The Ocean's universe is spinning off next year to follow a group of woman on their own high-stakes caper after the men had their fun across three movies. So far, Ocean's Eight has made some interesting casting choices, and not just with the main protagonists. Last month, it was announced that Damian Lewis would play the movie's main villain, and today it was reported that late-night sensation James Corden will be hopping onto the project as well.
Deadline states that The Late Late Show with James Corden's eponymous host will play an insurance investigator in Ocean's Eight who grows suspicious of the eight main characters as they're planning and executing their heist. Since Ocean's Eight concluded its principal photography last month, one can surmise that Corden either shot his scenes during some break periods or that he'll pop up during possible reshoots that have been scheduled. The article described Corden's role as a "good part," so expect him to have a fair amount to do in the movie. It sounds like he shouldn't be looked as as an antagonist, but he definitely won't make it easy for these ladies to complete their illegal task.
Although James Corden's time has been primarily devoted to hosting his iteration of The Late Late Show since 2015, he hasn't completely exited the world of acting since then. He was most recently heard as Biggie in Trolls, and he has upcoming voice roles in The Emoji Movie and Peter Rabbit. Before he became a late-night host, Corden was recognizable from his appearances in Doctor Who, Into the Woods, Gulliver's Travels and hosting the U.K. series A League of Their Own. Corden can also be seen next month hosting the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on CBS.
Rather than being a reboot, Ocean's Eight will be connected to the Ocean's trilogy from last decade by starring Sandra Bullock as Danny Ocean's (played by George Clooney) estranged sister, who will be leading this gang of thieves. Accompanying Bullock as part of the main cast are Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna and Awkwafina. These eight women will reportedly be trying to steal from Damian Lewis' villainous character, who is described as being the "ex-lover" of Sandra Bullock's character. Dakota Fanning and Richard Robichaux have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Matt Damon has confirmed he will cameo as Linus Caldwell, one of the main characters from Ocean's Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen. Gary Ross is directing the feature, and he co-wrote the script with Olivia Milch.
Ocean's Eight hits theaters on June 8, 2018. Let us know what you think of James Corden's casting in the comments below.
