New LEGO Batman Movie Video Finally Shows Commissioner James Gordon In Action
Ben Affleck may get all of the attention as the current live-action incarnation of The Caped Crusader, but we cannot forget Will Arnett's LEGO version of the character. LEGO Batman became an instant fan-favorite when he debuted in 2014's The LEGO Movie, and now Warner Bros. is about to parlay that immense popularity into his very own spin-off movie. With less than a month until The LEGO Batman Movie finally makes its way to theaters, we have finally received our first good look at LEGO Commissioner James Gordon in action. Check out the TV spot for the upcoming LEGO adventure below to see for yourself.
That TV spot (via Comicbook.com) for The LEGO Batman Movie really takes the time to showcase how vast and sprawling the upcoming family-friendly Batman story will be. Although we have seen many different members of The Bat Family in previous trailers and commercials, this seems to be the first good look we have received of the LEGO version of Commissioner Gordon. It is a pretty quick glimpse, but it maintains all of the hallmarks that we have come to expect from the iconic comic book character; he is a trench coat-clad, no-nonsense detective barking orders into a walkie-talkie. They have nailed him.
However, it's worth noting that we still don't know exactly how much of Commissioner Gordon that we will see during the events of The LEGO Batman Movie. Rumors related to the film's story seem to indicate that his daughter Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson) will take over as GCPD Commissioner during the events of the film. We will just have to wait and see how much screen time this DC icon actually gets.
I have to be perfectly honest with you about something: part of me is endlessly more excited for The LEGO Batman Movie than Ben Affleck's Batman movie. Although Affleck has certainly done some great things with his particular incarnation of The Dark Knight, there's something about Will Arnett's more light-hearted take on the hero that feels genuinely refreshing. The LEGO Batman Movie looks fun and light in a way that we have not seen since Adam West last donned the cape and cowl back in the 1960s, but it also has very clearly done its homework and drawn from the vast history of the legendary DC Comics hero. That's exactly what Bat Fans needs right now.
We will bring you more information related to the upcoming release of The LEGO Batman Movie as more details become available to us. The interlocking brick version of The Caped Crusader will debut for his first-ever solo movie on February 10. Stay tuned for more awesome details!
