Where Star Wars Fans Can Learn More About Jyn Erso’s Early Life
While Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a thrilling and wonderful film, there were some gaps in the story that we wish we'd gotten to see on the screen. One such gap is that of the years between Jyn Erso's father being abducted and when we caught up with her in Gareth Edwards' stand-alone spectacular. Well, much like most of the other gaps in the Star Wars universe, a book is coming that'll help clear some of that backstory up for us. Prepare for Star Wars: Rebel Rising.
Making Star Wars pushed the info about the young adult novel that's on its way to us this May, courtesy of bestselling author Beth Revis. Star Wars: Rebel Rising picks up on Jyn Erso's life with Saw Gerrera, promising to give both of their characters another dimension that wasn't seen in the film. But, more importantly, we're going to get to experience the moment when Saw abandons Jyn to her own devices, a moment we know from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as the catalyst to their rocky relationship when they reunite in the film.
The fact that Star Wars: Rebel Rising is going to delve into the complicated relationship of Jyn Erso and Saw Gerrera is enough to make us want to pre-order the book. The rapport between these two characters is definitely something that was missing from the most recent story in the Star Wars universe. In fact, some of the material we know was missing from the reshoots seems to have hinted that this story was touched upon more in previous drafts of the film.
Whether Beth Revis crafted Star Wars: Rebel Rising from earlier drafts of the script, or was given free reign to fabricate the story whole cloth, it's a story that needs to be told. And it's a good thing Revis is telling it, because her presence in the new Star Wars expanded universe is something that should be triumphed. The reason for this is because she's no stranger to quality young adult sci-fi, as she's written the best selling Across The Universe trilogy of books. If you take Passengers, give it a personality, and make the big reveal an actual surprise, with both sides telling the story, you've got the first book down to a tee.
Naturally, with Jyn's story taking the forefront of Star Wars: Rebel Rising, and with Beth Revis' pedigree being what it is, we're still really excited to see what the Star Wars universe will be rolling out in its printed counterpart. If you're as eager as we are, you can read a sample of the book online, and pre-order your copy before its May 2nd release date.
