One Marvel Movie May Debut A New Trailer During The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl's main attraction will always be watching two high-ranked football teams throw the ol' pigskin around (full disclosure, I'm not a sports guy), but it's not the only reason people tune in. The annual game is also prime real estate for advertisements, and movie studios especially love to seize air time to promote some of their biggest blockbusters of the year. With a little over a week until the grand sporting event, there's word that one of those high-profile previews will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
According to Deadline, Disney is expected to advertise two of its 2017 movie during the 51st Super Bowl, and one of those is rumored to be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, while the other could be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. There's no guarantee yet that this will happen, but if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does get some attention, don't expect the preview to be as long as the previously released trailers. Air time during the Super Bowl is expensive, so the best we could hope for is the standard 30-second TV spot.
Ignoring what was shown to folks in Hall H during last year's San Diego Comic-Con, the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 footage released to the public was the "sneak peek" teaser released last October. While it was great to see these characters again two years after they debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there wasn't much to chew on. Then in early December 2016, Marvel released the full teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel, which had a lot more to take in, from Baby Groot's fury to Mantis' introduction. If Marvel's past May blockbusters are any indication, we'll probably get another full-length trailer sometime in March, but a TV spot during the Super Bowl would be most welcome. It wouldn't even need to be all-new footage (although that would be appreciated), so long as it there's something we haven't seen before thrown in. Perhaps a look at Kurt Russell's Ego?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will follow the eponymous heroes as they continue their shenanigans throughout the cosmos while also learning how to live as a family. Along the way, they'll meet Peter Quill's father, Ego; go up against a band of mutinous of Ravagers led by Taserface; and Yondu, Nebula and Mantis will join the team. Things never get dull in the MCU, especially when you're traveling to multiple planets.
Super Bowl LI will air Sunday, February 5 on Fox, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend that day, as we'll be posting all the best movie previews that air during the game. Whether or not it airs a new preview or not during that time, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5.
