As if Avengers: Infinity War could get any bigger! With the entirety of the MCU sandbox to play in, Joe and Anthony Russo are trying to deliver maybe one of the biggest movies ever made, with a cast jam-packed with just about every superhero in the cinematic universe. That reach also extends to the stars, with most of the Guardians of the Galaxy confirmed to be appearing as well. Now it looks like one more Guardian is going to be joining the anti-Thanos force, after Pom Klementieff posted a pic with a certain increasingly popular hat that I desperately want for myself.
Pom Klementieff is one of the newest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making her debut in this summer's hotly anticipated sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Klementieff joins the title team as Mantis, an alien empath, and it looks like she'll be sticking around with the Guardians once Infinity War rolls around. The actress shared a selfie on her Facebook page wearing an Avengers: Infinity War beanie cap, which is slowly becoming the symbol of working on this movie (Sean Gunn posted a similar pic when he announced he'd be in Infinity War).
So, we'll have more Mantis to look forward to once we're formally introduced to the character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We obviously don't know to what extent she'll be in the film, but with something like 66 characters supposedly on the table, my hunch is that it won't be terribly huge. Still, just being able to say you're in this movie is pretty cool, and there's nothing that says Mantis won't end up being a scene stealer.
We don't know too much about Mantis' character yet, except for a few broad strokes. She's an empath (can feel the emotions of others) who was raised by Ego, the father of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord. She's never had much social interaction, and will learn about dealing with people and other "social intricacies" from the Guardians. You can check out the only footage of Mantis released thus far in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, where she already proves herself a great addition to the team.
You can first see Mantis, plus all of the other Guardians when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017. You can then look forward to seeing all those characters again almost one full year later in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
