How James Gunn Is Involved With The Avengers: Infinity War
While part of the Marvel Studios family of filmmakers, James Gunn has spent years distancing his work from the anticipated Avengers: Infinity War. The Guardians of the Galaxy characters he's brought to the big screen are certainly part of the same Cinematic Universe as Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor, but the writer/director has vocally expressed his happiness with the fact that his stories are set far away from the various Earthbound conflicts we've previously seen. Now that the big 2018 capstone project is in production, however, Gunn has finally gone on the record about his involvement with the film, essentially explaining his position as being the Guardian of the Guardians.
Following the launch of the amazing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer that launched during the Super Bowl, James Gunn hosted a Facebook Live event, and while answering many questions about his next film, he also talked about his role in the making of The Avengers: Infinity War. Acknowledging that Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot will be in the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed blockbuster, Gunn noted that his role to play in the proceedings is to make sure that the characters are being presented as accurate reflections. Said the filmmaker,
We've known for a while now that Guardians of the Galaxy characters will be featured in Avengers: Infinity War, but the problem is that we still have no idea how they'll be joining the action when Thanos puts his big plan in motion. That being said, if James Gunn is on set of the movie every single day, they certainly must have a significant role to play in the narrative being put together by the Russo brothers and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
Because The Avengers: Infinity War only started production a few weeks ago, it will be a while before we get to see any actual footage of Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana side-by-side with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans... so for now just enjoy the fact that we have this brand new Super Bowl trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is set to arrive in theaters on May 5th, and be sure to stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for a lot more coverage of the exciting blockbuster.
