Someone Remade Suicide Squad As A Horror Movie, And It’s Awesome

I think we can all pretty much agree that David Ayer's Suicide Squad is far from a perfect movie. It suffers from some serious pacing issues, it feels put together by committee and (perhaps worst of all) its tone is constantly all over the place. But what if it wasn't those things? A brand new fan trailer has hit the web showcasing Suicide Squad as a straightforward horror movie, and it's a fantastic reimagining of the recent Task Force X origin movie. Check out the fan trailer below to see the terror for yourself.

That fan trailer comes to us courtesy of YouTuber Ryan Ziegler, and it uses a simple, yet compelling idea: what if Suicide Squad leaned more aggressively into its horror themes? This trailer answers that question, and uses the Resident Evil VII theme song, "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" to depict a much more sinister and apocalyptic version of the film. It's amazing what a simple change of music and tone can do for a movie because this trailer lends the sense that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is forcing these bad guys to march off to their deaths in Midway City. THAT's the movie I wanted to see.

One thing that's particularly odd about this fan trailer is the fact that it's tonally quite similar to the original Suicide Squad footage that leaked from San Diego Comic-Con in 2015. That was the first real glimpse that we ever saw of David Ayer's Task Force X movie, and the tone of the footage was far darker and more somber than the official trailers that debuted closer to the film's release. It just goes to show that a studio should sometimes consider sticking to its first instinct when it comes to tone, style, and story.

If anyone at Warner Bros. has seen this fan trailer, they should seriously consider paying attention to it while developing future projects. With David Ayer getting to work on Gotham City Sirens (which is on a development fast track at DC Entertainment) and Suicide Squad 2 currently in development, now is the time to figure out the right tone and style for these films. Horror clearly works, so maybe it's time for them to consider giving scarier villains their time to shine in the spotlight.

We will bring you more information concerning all of the most highly anticipated DCEU projects as more details become available to us. The silver screen DC universe will continue its expansion when Wonder Woman debuts this summer on June 2.
