Fifty Shades Darker Wants Fans To Try This Interactive, Online VR Experience
Now that we're ankle deep into the month of February, folks are gearing up for the next holiday: Valentine's Day. And whether you've found someone to share the day with or would prefer going out with your friends, the movie theater is a common destination for those pink and red clad audience members. And Valentine's 2017 brings the release of the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker. The first film made tons at the box office, so the team behind the sequel is trying to amp up excitement for the upcoming release. Case in point: a new VR experience that puts you into the action of Fifty Shades Darker's masquerade sequence.
As seen in the various trailer, Fifty Shades Darker features a scene where Christian takes Ana to a masquerade ball shortly after they reconnect. You can now take part in the scene yourself, via the film's official Youtube.
Pretty cool, right? Rather than just one scene, the above VR experience allows the player to travel throughout an entire evening, catching glimpses of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's reunion. Additionally, there may some hidden clues about the film's contents hidden within.
The above video starts at the very top of the masquerade ball, with you at the entrance of the venue. While this if a bit dull, things heat up halfway through the second scene, where you hear partygoers around you mention that Christian is entering. And after a bit of work, you'll see the film's stars enter the party. In fact, Christian will even give you a quick hello as they enter. I'm sure that's enough to get the hardcore fans of the novels swooning.
From there we are reintroduced to Christian's adopted mother Grace Trevelyan-Grey, played by Marcia Gay Harden. Despite being a supporting character in Fifty Shades of Grey, Harden has been mostly absent from the marketing materials and trailers attached to the sequel. But the Code Black actress will be returning for Fifty Shades Darker, and it looks like her role may be a juicy one.
Because while Grace's interaction with Ana and Christian seemed like peaches and cream, they eventually leave and she takes off her mask. The look on Marcia Gay Harden's face seems somewhat dark, perhaps teasing a conflict between mother and son in the sequel. Alternatively, she may just be worried for the duo's welfare.
The final scene in the VR experience shows Ana and Christian escaping upstairs, presumably to do the horizontal mambo. The dialogue featured is an interaction we've heard between the two characters in essentially every commercial in Fifty Shades Darker; Ana doesn't want no scrubs and no contracts this time around. Take that, Christian.
