The Rock's Rampage Movie May Be Adding A Magic Mike Star
When he's not working out or entertaining fans on social media, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson keeps himself busy with plenty of acting projects, both on the big and small screens. One of those projects is Rampage, the movie adaptation of the 1986 video game featuring gigantic monsters wreaking havoc on humanity. Aside from Johnson himself as the lead, the only other actor who's been added to the cast so far is Moonlight's Naomie Harris, but Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello may be preparing to board the blockbuster.
According to THR, Manganiello is currently in talks to appear in Rampage. If a deal is worked out, he will play the leader of a private military group. Dwayne Johnson will play the main protagonist, an animal-loving man who is "the world's only hope," while Naomie Harris will play a geneticist "with a moral streak." No specific plot details for Rampage have been released, but just like in the video game, the story will see three humans being transformed into large beasts (a gorilla, werewolf and crocodile), give into their monstrous instincts and terrorize cities and landmarks across North America.
Joe Manganiello's credits include Spider-Man, One Tree Hill, How I Met Your Mother and E.R., but in recent years, he's arguably best known for playing Richie in the Magic Mike movies and Alcide Herveaux on True Blood. Along with possibly joining Rampage, he's also set to play the new Batman movie's main antagonist, Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke. However, because the Caped Crusader's movie is currently without a director and reportedly being rewritten, a delay is definitely possibility, which means that Manganiello's schedule may open up and allow him to jump onto Rampage if he chooses. As for the role he'd be playing, Manganiello has proven himself on many occasions to play the "tough guy" well, so the head of a private military group is a good fit for him. Presumably he'd be the one all too eager to start shooting at the monsters when they got too close.
Also in talks to join Rampage with Joe Manganiello is Marley Shelton, known from movies like The Sandlot, Nixon, Plesantville, Uptown Girls and The Lottery. If cast, she will play a scientist/astronaut. We'll be sure to let keep you updated on whether her or Manganiello officially join Rampage, as well as any other castings, when more information comes in.
Rampage's principal photography will reportedly kick off next month, but a release date hasn't been assigned yet. Let us know what you think of these actors potentially coming on board in the comments below.
