More X-Men Movies For Patrick Stewart? Here’s What He Thinks
We know that Logan will be the swan song for Hugh Jackman in his role as Wolverine, but, since we don't really know what's next for the X-Men universe as a whole, what does that mean for the other long serving members of the franchise? Patrick Stewart has played Professor Charles Xavier nearly as many times as Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine, but while Jackman is ready to say goodbye, Stewart is by no means ready to stop playing the role if the filmmakers have need of him.
Patrick Stewart gave the answer to our own Wolverine superfan contest winner (who's going to steal my job if I'm not careful) Caitlin Elam. She asked if the exit for Hugh Jackman also meant an exit for Stewart but the actor was quick to say that he's not ready to leave. Stewart had previously said that this would likely be his last turn as Prof. X, but it always sounded like he was just making an assumption that there wouldn't be anything left for him after Logan, not that he wanted to be done.
In addition to Patrick Stewart's comments to CinemaBlend, he also made a similar statement to ET, reiterating that he's up for more adventures in the mutant world. It seems it's important that everybody not make the assumption that Stewart his done. The man needs work people.
Of course, the question is, is there a future for Patrick Stewart in the X-Men universe? At this point, there has been no official announcement of a follow-up to X-Men: Apocalypse. Even if there was, that would be no guarantee that the Charles Xavier that they needed would be Stewart. Sophie Turner recently stated that she would be making another X-Men movie later this year. While details on that are sketchy at best, if Turner is returning, that would seem to indicate a potential role for James McAvoy, not Patrick Stewart. Still, anything is possible. For those of us who were there when the X-Men franchise began Patrick Stewart is Professor X. It would be great to see him return.
Whether or not it's his last performance in the role, Patrick Stewart will play Charles Xavier when Logan hits theaters March 3. Check out his comments to our Wolverine contest winner below.
