Could Russell Crowe Play Cable In Deadpool 2? Here’s What He Said

Who will eventually be playing the time-traveling mutant Cable in Deadpool 2 has been a huge talking point of the sequel. We've seen a number of actors have their names associated with the character, from Stephen Lang all the way to Keira Knightley (she has range). It seems that Ryan Reynolds and crew have not yet found just the right actor for the role, but now Russell Crowe joins the growing list of potential Cables. The actor's name was brought to the table thanks to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, who had an exchange with Crowe over Twitter about the part.

That's not a no!

To clear things up a little, Rob Liefeld is the creator of Deadpool, and he tweeted about which actor he feels should read for the part of Cable: Russell Crowe. Instead of tweeting his interest level, Crowe took more issue with the phrasing of the tweet that he should have read for it. For an actor of Crowe's level, they usually don't have to audition for parts anymore, they just get offered it directly. Fair enough. Liefeld tweeted back an apology that he phrased his statement wrong, but he still thinks Crowe should consider it. Crowe at least seems open to the idea, and left the ball in Ryan Reynold's court to reach out to him if he wants to make it happen.

Robert Liefeld couldn't resist one last tweet, posting a photo of Crowe as Cable and tagging Reynolds in it as well.

Russell Crowe as Cable is definitely an interesting idea, and thanks to The Nice Guys, I'm fairly certain Crowe can handle the role. In The Nice Guys, Crowe stars as a tough as nails curmudgeon opposite Ryan Gosling's goofier and talkative detective. That's basically the relationship between Cable and Deadpool in its simplest form. Crowe was great in that movie, and if you add a glowing eye, a big gun, and a couple pouches, then you've got the basic building blocks of Cable.

Who knows if Crowe will end up playing Cable in Deadpool 2, but there's bound to be more updates before the right actor is eventually found. Make sure to keep it here at CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated with new information as it becomes available. Deadpool 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
