There's absolutely going to be another James Bond film eventually, but rumors and speculation have swirled around Daniel Craig's involvement with said film for quite some time. For every rumor about Craig being done with the franchise, there's another assuring that he's still interested in continuing. Today, we have the latter, as Naomie Harris throws her own two cents into the Craig debate. Having played Moneypenny in the last two films, Harris has some insight into the matter, and she believes that the interest to do another film is definitely there.
Before Naomie Harris performed her Oscar-nominated role as a drug-addicted mother in Moonlight, she portrayed a new and updated version of classic Bond character Moneypenny in the last two Bond films. Harris recently received the OBE award from the Queen herself at Buckingham Palace for her work in Moonlight, and BBC News took the chance to ask her just what the hell is going on with James Bond.
It's kind of an understatement to say that the makers of 007 want to stay with Craig. Of course, they do. Daniel Craig's Bond films have been the highest grossing films of the entire series, with Skyfall and Spectre posting the biggest numbers. With Craig attached as the star, the Bond franchise has seen a major revitalization, so it makes complete sense that they'd want to keep that streak going as long as possible. Banking on an entirely new actor is a gamble and though, it's one they have to take eventually, that doesn't mean they want to rush to it.
Naomie Harris goes on to say that the rest of the cast and the producers all want him to come back but "the only person that needs persuading is Daniel." She also believes that Craig is aware of the amount of pressure on him to continue with the franchise, and that at the end of the day he'll simply have to do what's right for him. Daniel Craig has thus far kept all of us guessing, at one point saying rather famously that he'd rather slash his own wrist than come back, only to turn around and say he's got the greatest job in the world. It's a real 50-50 right now on which he'll decide to do.
It's unclear how long we'll have to wait before we hear anything official from Daniel Craig, but you can be sure that that announcement is coming, so keep it here at CinemaBlend and we'll update you with all the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
