Looks Like Another Guardians of the Galaxy Character Will Be In Infinity War
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an ever expanding place. With new films set for the rest of phase three and beyond, it appears that the MCU still has no shortage of stories to tell. And the past 14 films and 9 years of films will come together when Avengers: Infinity War unites the catalogue of characters in a battle against Josh Brolin's Thanos. The lineup for the massive film has only continued to grow over the past few months, and now it appears that yet another Guardians of the Galaxy character is set to appear in the massive team up film.
The Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker, who plays the blue guy Yondu in Guardians, recently posted on his personal Instagram page something that should make Marvel fans very happy. He happens to be wearing an Avengers: Infinity War crew hat, presumably due to his role in the the film. So in addition to the other Guardians and Nebula, it appears that Yondu will also make some sort of appearance in Infinity War.
Yondu's inclusion in Avengers: Infinity War may be a surprise to those fans who saw Guardians of the Galaxy. While a fantastic supporting character, Yondu didn't bring a ton to move the narrative forward. Sure, he brought in laughs and set up Star-Lord/Peter Quill's backstory, but I wouldn't have assumed that he'd somehow be in the next Avengers film.
However, this will likely change after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters. Yondu has been included in all of the film's marketing materials, even being listed alongside the Guardians as the main cast. So it's safe to say that Yondu will likely be much more featured this around. And if Yondu's role and backstory is expanded in Vol. 2, then perhaps his inclusion in Avengers: Infinity War will feel more organic.
Of course, I'm happy to see that any and all characters will be crossing over in Infinity War. Because while the MCU is a shared storytelling universe, we typically have to wait years for characters to interact. Infinity War, however, will include both teams of Avengers as well as the Guardians, assembling a motley crew of colorful characters to kick ass and take names.
And luckily for us, we won't have to wait very long to find out just how much Yondu's part has grown in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The highly anticipated sequel will fly into theaters in just a few short months: May 5, 2017.
