Will Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Have A Post Credits Scene? Here’s What James Gunn Said

You'd be hard-pressed to think of a movie in the MCU that didn't have a post-credits scene in one form or another (I'm counting mid-credits too). Sometimes they overtly tease the next movie down the line, and sometimes they're more of a goofy stinger ala Howard the Duck. Regardless, it's an MCU tradition that has largely spread to most major blockbusters, but can you imagine if Marvel didn't have a post-credits scene? Well, James Gunn sure can't, and he recently revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will indeed have a post-credits stinger.

If seems a bit ridiculous to have to ask if a Marvel movie will have a post-credits scene nowadays, but some fans feel better safe than sorry. One fan on Twitter asked James Gunn if the hotly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would have an after-credits scene and the director didn't leave anything dangling. He urges that unless someone has an epic emergency, they better keep their butts in the seat until the entire credits sequence is over. Nevermind your bladder, there could be a teaser to Spider-Man: Homecoming for Chrissakes!

Obviously, we can only speculate as to what said scene could be about. Spider-Man: Homecoming is the next film of Phase 3, so we could see something about that. Alternatively, it could not tease anything at all and just end on a joke. This is all forgetting about a mid-credits scene too, which just further opens the window for more wild speculation.

Seeing as how the Guardians aren't too connected to the larger ensemble of films, it makes sense that any after-credits scene would tease their next appearance, which just so happens to be their biggest: Avengers: Infinity War. The Guardians and the Avengers will team up to battle Thanos when the epic eventually arrives and what better why to get average and diehard moviegoers alike excited? Avengers: Infinity War will have been filming for several months by the time Vol 2. releases, so they feasibly could assemble some sort of rough footage for a teaser. That's in an ideal world though, and I wouldn't bet the farm on that happening. But it'd be amazing.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is directed by James Gunn and continues the adventures of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. Picking up a few months after the first film, the Guardians are settling into their new role as protectors of the galaxy when a new threat arises and leads Star-Lord to learn the true identity of his parentage. The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Kurt Russell as Ego the Living Planet.

You can see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and its fabled post-credits scene when the movie releases on May 5, 2017.
