Could Nick Fury Not Be In Infinity War? Here's What Samuel L. Jackson Said
We fully expect Avengers: Infinity War to be the film that brings the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together in one place for the very first time. However, one actor is now implying that he won't in the movie after all. In a recent interview, Samuel L. Jackson was asked about playing Nick Fury again in Infinity War but the actor says that he doesn't know anything about the movie, implying that he won't be appearing.
To be fair, a lot of rumored information does show up on IMDB without confirmation, so Jackson is right, you really shouldn't give them perfect trust on the matter.
Of course, at the same time, Samuel L. Jackson has a particular way about him that makes you wonder when he's being serious and when he's messing with you. The tone of his comments to MTV International are such that you can't be sure if he seriously doesn't know anything about Avengers: Infinity War or not.
He could just be pulling the reporter's leg. It's true that Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury has not been confirmed to appear in the next Avengers movie, and so Jackson could just be toeing the company line. He knows he's not confirmed so he's playing coy on the topic until such time as the reveal takes place. One would think that he would know whether or not he was in the movie and so he if he wasn't he could set his interviewer straight and let her know that he's not in the film.
At the same time, maybe Marvel hasn't been in touch. We'd heard that Nick Fury was going to be taking something of a break from the MCU following the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and thus far that has appeared to be true. Maybe Nick Fury truly won't be in Avengers: Infinity War. At this point, we don't really know how much of the movie will take place on Earth versus the rest of the galaxy. Maybe, there just isn't much need for the character in the film.
Of course, even if Nick Fury will not appear in Avengers: Infinity War it doesn't mean we won't see him again before the end of Phase Three. It's possible the character is being held back for Avengers 4. While these last two Avengers movies are no longer being called part one and part two, from what we know, we still expect them to be connected from a story perspective. It's possible, if not likely, that most of the big "team up" moments will take place in the latter film so Fury might only be conspicuously absent then.
When do you think Nick Fury should make his triumphant return to the MCU? Let us know in the comments below.
