Of Course Vin Diesel Races A Car That's On Fire In The Fate Of The Furious
What has happened to Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel)? It's one of the biggest questions that we have going into F. Gary Gray's The Fate of the Furious, the eighth chapter in this soap opera on wheels. All of the marketing materials point to Dom going rogue, turning on the members of his close-knit "family" and working for an icy blonde villain named Cypher (Charlize Theron). This is out of character for Dom. However, driving a car that's on fire in order to win a race is COMPLETELY in character for Dom, and that's what you get in the first full clip from The Fate of the Furious.
This screengrab comes from a full scene that was released by Top Gear in the UK. They have it exclusive for now, so click here to watch the scene in its entirety. The scene shows off some of the footage obtained in Cuba, where F. Gary Gray and his Fate of the Furious crew filmed a few months back. Cuba is one of the many new locations being added to the repertoire of Fast movies. We also will be taking the gang to New York City and Iceland on this new adventure.
However, we still have a lot of questions. We don't know WHY Dom is street racing in Cuba. And we don't know why he is on a solo mission. Normally, when Dom is involved in a street race like this, he has members of his team scouted out at specific and important checkpoints to ensure a victory. Toretto appears to be on his own in this particular scene, and while he has souped up his car of choice for this race, the damage taken when he gets hit by a motorcycle (as you do) leads to the front end of the car catching on fire. That would cause MOST of us to pump the brakes and pull over. Not Dom. Dom braves the heat, stays in the kitchen, and even finds a way to race in reverse. That's got to help, right?
The Fate of the Furious has a lot of moving parts. Not only is Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) jumping ship, but normal adversaries The Rock and Jason Statham will have to join forces to track Dom down. That happens AFTER the two break out of prison. Wait, why is Hobbs in prison in the first place? Like I said, we still have a lot of questions about The Fate of the Furious.
Thankfully, the movie hits theaters very soon. Co-starring Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, The Rock, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese, Ludacris, and so much more, F. Gary Gray's The Fate of the Furious races into theaters on April 14. And for a look ahead at all 2017 Release Dates, click those words. Do you have your tickets yet?
