A Big Bang Theory Star Just Joined Batman And Harley Quinn
We've made no secret of our love for DC animation here at CinemaBlend. The comic book giant has continuously produced fantastic animated features over the course of the last 25 years, and despite a few missteps (The Killing Joke comes to mind), things seem to just keep getting better and better. DC is about to take us back to the world of Batman: The Animated Series with Batman And Harley Quinn, and the project has officially found its Ms. Quinzel in the form of The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch.
A new report from Empire confirms that The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch has been tapped to voice Harley Quinn in the upcoming Batman And Harley Quinn DC animated movie. The film will reportedly center on a reluctant partnership between The Dark Knight, Ms. Quinzel, and Nightwing as they attempt to stop a potentially apocalyptic event caused by Poison Ivy and the Plant-Master. Harley is one of the few human beings that Poison Ivy has a genuine connection with (they've even dated in the comics), so it seems very likely that Batman has enlisted Quinn's help to try and talk some sense into Ivy. I wonder what Mr. J will think of this partnership.
As far as casting decisions go, Melissa Rauch is a fairly pitch perfect choice for the role of Harley Quinn. Not only does she have a high-pitched voice that's very reminiscent of Arleen Sorkin and Tara Strong; she also has developed a reputation as an actress through her work in a show predicated on the passion and intensity of geek culture. Something tells us that all of those years on The Big Bang Theory have given her an understanding of how fans will respond to her performance, thus ensuring that she will deliver the best possible Harley Quinn.
Melissa Rauch is definitely standing alongside some serious Gotham giants with her role as Harley Quinn. Although she's a newcomer to the Batman universe, Batman And Harley Quinn will take place within the world of Batman: The Animated Series, and even bring back a number of classic B:TAS voice actors. Most notably, Batman And Harley Quinn is going to team Ms. Rauch up with Loren Lester as Nightwing, as well as Kevin "I am the night" Conroy as Batman.
Despite her commitment to Batman And Harley Quinn, it doesn't sound like Melissa Rauch is going anywhere on The Big Bang Theory. The long-running CBS sitcom recently received a renewal from the network, and Rauch herself even received a highly publicized pay bump. She may be moving on to the role of Harley Quinn, but Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz is going to stick around for the foreseeable future as well.
Batman And Harley Quinn will debut this summer. For now, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is currently available on Digital HD, and the Blu-ray will hit shelves on April 18.
