Watch The Rock Hilariously Give Us Commentary To The Scorpion King
It's a well-established fact that Dwayne Johnson is one of the most likable actors working today. Honestly, he could read entries out of the phone book, and we would probably sit forward in our chairs, completely entranced. The Hollywood megastar recently decided to poke a bit of fun at himself by reacting to his work on The Scorpion King, and the video of the affair is even more fun than you would expect. Check it out below to see for yourself.
In honor of the 15th anniversary of the release of The Scorpion King (and ahead of the theatrical release of The Fate of the Furious), Dwayne Johnson decided to post a video of himself reacting to a few scenes from his first major Hollywood movie. As you can pretty clearly see, it is equal parts cringeworthy and hilarious to watch. To give credit where credit is due, Johnson approaches his reaction to the film with plenty of humility, and he is completely willing to acknowledge the ridiculousness of certain scenes, as well as his relative inexperience as an actor during the production. That's not something that every actor would be willing to do.
Now that we have all sat through The Rock's reaction to The Scorpion King--and if you haven't, what are you waiting for?-- I would just like to take a moment to point out the fact that it is actually a somewhat enjoyable movie. The Scorpion King obviously never had a chance to win an Oscar (although it did feature a future Oscar-winner in the form of Grant Heslov), but it was still a very fun adventure romp that was grounded by two strong performances by The Rock and Kelly Hu. Because Dwayne Johnson had never performed as a leading actor before this film and considering the fact that The Scorpion King was a spin-off from the relatively lackluster The Mummy Returns, I think it's safe to say that The Rock's first film actually turned out pretty well overall.
It is also worth mentioning how important The Scorpion King was for putting The Rock into the spotlight in Hollywood. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger's work on the Conan the Barbarian series, The Scorpion King was a jumping off point that ultimately led to bigger and better things. Without his work on The Scorpion King, Johnson likely would've never had the opportunity to work on films like The Rundown and Walking Tall, which means that he probably wouldn't have made the transition to major franchises like The Fast and the Furious series. We all have to start somewhere, and it is great to see that The Rock can look back on his previous work and laugh at himself.
The Scorpion King was Dwayne Johnson's first genuine foray into the world of Hollywood acting, and the rest is history. You check out his latest adventure in the action genre with The Fate of the Furious debuts in theaters on April 14.
