Sylvester Stallone May Have A Bigger Role In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Than We Thought
While we know that Sylvester Stallone will have a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, our previous information seemed to imply the role wasn't very large. Now, it seems that info may have been inaccurate. While previously it was reported that Stallone would only have a cameo, some new information has come to light that would seem to indicate that he'll be playing a very important character in the history of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Starhawk.
The information comes from the Twitter account of an Italian movie site, Moviesbook.It. They posted an image of what is reported to be a press release for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which gives Sylvester Stallone's character the name Stakar. This name is a big deal as Stakar Ogord is the name of a hero known in Marvel Comics as Starhawk, who is actually one of the founding members of the Guardians of the Galaxy in the books.
Previously the rumor was that Sylvester Stallone would be playing one of Yondu's Ravagers and would appear only briefly in the film. However, if Stallone is, in fact, playing Starhawk, then the odds are he's going to be a much more important part of the story.
Starhawk is actually the combined form of two different characters, Stakar and his adoptive sister/wife (comics are weird) Aleta Ogord. He's a founding member of the Guardians of the Galaxy in at least one of Marvel's parallel universes in the comics. Given this, it's far from surprising that Starhawk would make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 or that a major actor like Sylvester Stallone would be playing him. What is surprising is that, if true, we're only learning this a month prior to the film's release.
While it's difficult to gauge the authenticity of the press materials, we do have to say that this certainly does make more sense as a potential role for Sylvester Stallone. While celebrity cameos are far from unusual in big movies, Stallone doesn't have the history in these sorts of films for a random cameo to make a lot of sense. We're wondering if somebody got their wires crossed and when they said Stallone was playing a Raveger, they actually meant Reaver, as Starhawk is historically a member of the Reavers of Arcturus.
We're certainly curious to see what the truth is about Sly's role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. _2_. We'll find out for sure when the movie debuts May 5.
