Is The Fast And Furious Fight Between Vin Diesel And The Rock Over?
Sure, the conflict between Dominic Toretto and his crew has become a huge story, at the same time as The Fate of the Furious has officially become the biggest movie in the world, but there's one feud that has managed to grab even more headlines than that: the fight between The Rock and Vin Diesel. Rumors started to swirl last year about a beef between the two behemoth action stars on the set of The Fate of the Furious, and the way the movie is edited even seems to show the disconnect between them. However, it now appears that the two Fast and Furious stars have made peace with each other, as The Rock has reportedly agreed to sign on for the ninth installment alongside Diesel.
A new report from TMZ seems to indicate that Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel have worked through the differences that arose on the set of The Fate of the Furious. The feud reportedly centered around the concept of "real estate," meaning that the two big name actors were fighting for top dog status on the recent blockbuster. According to the report, Dwayne Johnson was ultimately the one who acquiesced -- allowing Vin Diesel to take on the role as the face of the franchise while Luke Hobbs will remain as a supporting player in the Fast and Furious world. The Feud of the Furious looks to be over, and not a moment too soon for the major tentpole franchise.
Getting The Rock to stand down on that real estate issue was probably not that difficult in the long run. After all, it's not like he has a shortage of projects on the horizon. The guy's calendar is all booked up for the foreseeable future. The Fast and Furious franchise has been Vin Diesel's primary starring vehicle (pun intended) for the better part of the last decade, while The Rock has several different irons in several different fires across a wide range of franchises and genres; he can easily let this one go and remain one of the biggest stars in the world.
The feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel exploded last year when Johnson took to social media to complain about an unspecified member of the Fast and Furious ensemble. It seemed as if he were referring to Diesel, and members of the cast (Tyrese Gibson in particular) slowly but surely chimed in to try and smooth things out. Things between Johnson and Diesel remained tense until recently, as The Fate of the Furious apparently went to great lengths to keep Hobbs and Dom Toretto separate from one another, and the two actors barely did any press events together to promote the movie. Rumors have even persisted that Vin Diesel demanded that Universal cut a sequence between Johnson and Jason Statham showing off the chemistry between Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, but now it seems that all parties have come to a consensus concerning how to proceed with this franchise as it moves into its ninth installment.
No matter whose side you were on during this feud, I think it's safe to say that we're glad to learn that Hobbs and Dom will both return to the Fast and Furious world for the next film. The Fate of the Furious is currently in theaters, so make sure to check it out!
