With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 only a few days away, now might be the time to start thinking about the next sequel. The second film in the Guardians franchise went bigger by adding three characters to the team, though only one of which was new to the movies. It stands to reason that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would have at least one new character join the roster and Dave Bautista knows who his top pick would be. The Drax actor revealed that he'd be down for Moondragon --Drax's daughter from the comics -- to show up.
One of the core themes of the Guardians of the Galaxy series is family, be it finding it with your friends or exploring the relationships between child and parent. Drax's wife and daughter were killed by Ronan, but in the comics, his daughter Heather ends up surviving and becoming the superhero Moondragon. With Vol. 2 tackling father figures, Screen Rant wanted to know if Dave Bautista would like to see Moondragon appear in a future movie. The answer was a definite yes.
Drax's backstory in the comics is drastically different from the one seen in the movies. Comic book Drax was original a human who, along with his family, was killed by Thanos in a visit to Earth. He was then resurrected in a new body for the sole purpose of killing Thanos once and for all. James Gunn simplified this by removing the human part of Drax's story and just making him an alien. In the comics, Drax's daughter Heather (Moondragon) survives and goes on to be raised by space monks and becomes an extremely powerful telepath. There's nothing that says Drax's movie daughter didn't survive too and there's always the possibility to see her in a sequel, though, likely in a radically different form than the comics version.
Moondragon would definitely make for an interesting addition to the Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition to being a telepath, she's also an accomplished martial artist (that's just what happens when you're raised by space monks) and she even spent some time as an actual dragon. If she will ever show up, only James Gunn knows. Drax has never been the main focus of these movies but being reintroduced to his daughter would be in line with the themes of the series and could really tug at the heartstrings.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn and will be exploding into theaters on May 5, 2017. To learn more, here's everything there is to know about the sequel.
