Is Tyrese Gibson Threatening To Play Green Lantern Again?
Although still pretty young in its life, the DC Extended Universe has been making big plans for its future. Newly announced installments like Joss Whedon's Batgirl movie and Gotham City Sirens will bring in more iconic characters, opening the door for Hollywood's finest to step into the extremely popular superhero genre. One actor who has been campaigning for his shot at the DCEU is The Fast and the Furious actor Tyrese Gibson. For the past two years, Gibson has been open about taking meetings with DC, while also occasionally sharing cryptic pictures of popular Green Lantern John Stewart. And now it looks like he's back to his old tricks again.
Tyrese Gibson has once again taken to Instagram with an image of John Stewart. Check it out.
He did it again. So let's talk it all out.
This new image of John Stewart, which actually looks pretty glorious, is likely rendering of the character for the upcoming video game Injustice 2. The highly anticipated fighting game has been announcing new characters every week or so, and John Stewart has just been rumored as a DLC option alongside Reverse Flash and Power Girl.
But with the DCEU expanding a the rate it is, it's only a matter of time before the Green Lantern Corps. are brought into the universe. Many comic book fans were displeased with a lack of Green Lantern in Zack Snyder's Justice League, although rumors have been swirling that the Hal Jordan version would make a surprise appearance.
If anything, you can't blame Tyrese Gibson for hustling so hard for the role. Plenty of actors have campaigned to play superhero roles, from Stephen Lang to Ron Perlman. So if the Geoff Johns and the folks over at DC are planning to bring John Stewart into the universe, they'd surely put him on the short list of contenders.
John Stewart is one of the most popular Green Lanterns of all time. An architect and marine, he's able to use his vast knowledge to craft nearly anything with his power ring. The character gained massive popularity due to the animated series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, playing one of the main characters of the show, and the team's main Green Lantern.
