Mark Wahlberg And Oscar Isaac May Be Up For A Major Superhero Adaptation
Sony Pictures is tackling the superhero movie genre on two fronts. The first is by taking Spider-Man characters like Venom and crafting stories around them unconnected to the Wall-Crawler. The second is by building a cinematic universe based off Valiant Comics properties. One of the Valiant movies currently in development is Bloodshot, and according to a new report, Mark Wahlberg and Oscar Isaac may be among the top candidates being considered to play the gun-toting eponymous protagonist.
Along with Mark Wahlberg and Oscar Isaac, the other actors reportedly on Sony's "wish list" to play Bloodshot on the big screen include James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal and Nicholas Hoult.Three other actors are also in consideration, though their names weren't provided to The Wrap. The article also mentioned that Sony is preparing to send out offers for Bloodshot, though it's worth noting that just because an actor is on this list doesn't necessarily mean the studio is in talks with them. Whoever is cast as Bloodshot will be the second actor to play him in live action, as former Green Ranger Jason David Frank plays the character in the web series Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe.
Of the five actors Sony is supposedly looking at to play Bloodshot, three of them have previous superhero movie experience thanks to their involvement in the "First Class" era of the X-Men franchise. James McAvoy played the younger Professor X, Nicholas Hoult played the younger Beast and Oscar Isaac played Apocalypse. As for Mark Wahlberg and Jake Gyllenhaal, the former has been leaving his mark on the action genre through the recent Transformers movies, while the latter's action-heavy roles include Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Source Code.
Bloodshot, a.k.a. Angelo Mortalli, is a former soldier who has abilities like super strength, regeneration, shapeshifting and technology interfacing thanks to nanites injected into his blood. The product of a super soldier program called Project Rising Spirit, Bloodshot's memories was wiped away, and after learning about how he'd been manipulated, he sets out to learn about his past and who he really is.
Although Harbinger, which will follow a team of superpowered teenaged fugitives, was originally reported to be kicking off the Valiant cinematic universe, supposedly that honor now belongs to Bloodshot, with Harbinger coming afterwards. The Bloodshot movie is being directed by Blur Studios VFX artist Dave Wilson, and Arrival screenwriter Eric Heisserer penned the script. The Fast and the Furious' Neal Mortiz, Tobe Jaffe and Dinesh Shamdasani are producing.
