Check Out Amber Heard Looking Super Wet In First Look At Mera In Aquaman
Justice League is taking the opportunity to shine the light on its heroes' personal lives, and Aquaman is no exception. During the big team-up, we'll meet Arthur Curry's fellow Atlantean warrior and love interest, Mera. Zack Snyder has provided a few looks of Amber Heard as the live action Mera in Justice League, but with Aquaman currently in production, director James Wan has dropped a new photo of the sea-dwelling heroine in his movie, and it's a lot more colorful and wetter than what's come before.
Amber Heard's began her first day of shooting on Aquaman today, and to celebrate the occasion, James Wan posted this photo on social media (taken by Jasin Boland) of the actress as Mera, and keeping in line with Aquaman's primary setting, Heard is drenched, as if her character just emerged from the ocean. Also, unlike Zack Snyder's Justice League picture, this Aquaman picture doesn't shy away from vibrant colors, as Heard's Mera look much closer to her comic book counterpart with the scaly bodysuit and its bright shade of green.
Seeing Amber Heard as Mera is undoubtedly a treat for many Aquaman fans, but this first day of shooting was an even bigger deal for the actress. As Heard noted on social media hours before James Wan posted this photo (seen below), her first day of shooting Aquaman marked the culmination of more than a year of work she's put into preparing for Mera. Judging by the above picture, it's paid off. A couple hours after the first Mera pictured was posted, Heard showed her own photo of the Atleantean beauty.
No official details have been provided about Mera's role in Aquaman, but like in the comics, we can presumably expect her to fight alongside Arthur Curry and eventually become Queen of Atlantis once he becomes king, if he isn't already. Along with underwater breathing and enhanced strength, Mera can also manipulate and shape water with her mind, an ability that all her people, the Xebellians, have. While Mera primarily battles evil alongside Aquaman in the comics, she's also been a member of the Red Lantern Corps and the Justice League United.
Besides Amber Heard, Aquaman's main cast consists of Jason Momoa as the main protagonist, Willem Dafoe as Vulko (who is also appearing in Justice League), Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus and Ludi Lin as Murk.
Aquaman dives into theaters on December 21, 2018, but before that, you can see Mera's DCEU debut in Justice League on November 17.
