Will Star Wars: The Last Jedi Include A Major Character Reunion? Here's What We Know
The following may contain spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Read at your own risk
One of the most touching moments in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was seeing Han Solo and Leia Organa together again for the first time. Now there are rumors that another major reunion might be in the cards for the next film. Today, a report came out from the Comic Con of Chile claiming that Pablo Hidalgo, a chief member of the Star Wars story team, had confirmed that Luke Skywalker and his twin sister Leia, would be reunited during a scene in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. However, in a follow-up, he's now claiming that isn't what he said.
The original report came from Spanish language site PrensaImperial, which was then translated by Star Wars News Net. According to it, Pablo Hidalgo revealed a handful of minor details about the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The biggest of them, however, was that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher would actually share a scene together in the new film. This news, while not necessarily shocking, would certainly be worth discussing.
However, it now looks like it isn't actually true. I09 reached out to Pablo Hidalgo via Twitter to confirm the report and he did not do so. According to him, the only thing that he talked about during his time at the Comic-Con regarding Luke and Leia together was the recent Vanity Fair photo shoot that brought Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher together in character.
Now, in denying that he said that such a scene existed doesn't mean that there isn't such a scene, simply that Pablo Hidalgo is not going to confirm that it exists. Hidalgo is willing to take some of the heat for the confusion, as he says he may have misspoken, though he also suggests there was an error in translation. That doesn't appear to be the case, however, the original source does specify that it is talking about a scene between the two.
A Luke and Leia reunion in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is obviously an important topic for fans. Following the death of Carrie Fisher late last year, we know that if there is no reunion between the two on-screen siblings in The Last Jedi, then it won't happen at all. Since the actual story of the movie is still tightly under wraps we don't what the odds are that the two characters will see each other. Leia does know where Luke is, but the first trailer doesn't appear to show Luke anywhere but on the island we found him on, and Leia's Resistance appears to be dealing with problems of its own.
We certainly hope that Luke and Leia find each other during Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We'll know for sure when the movie arrives this December. For
