J.K. Rowling Has Finished the Fantastic Beasts 2 Script
Harry Potter fans bid farewell to the Boy Who Lived and his epic tale in 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2, but the Wizarding World wasn't away from the big screen for long. Last year Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them turned the clock back to show what shenanigans Newt Scamander was getting into in 1926 New York City, and just like Harry Potter, Newt has more adventures along the way. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will hit theaters late next year, and J.K. Rowling the mastermind of this magical mythology, has confirmed that she's finished the script.
When asked by a fan on Twitter if she was done with the Fantastic Beasts 2 script, J.K. Rowling answered that she is, although she wouldn't comply with that fan's other demand of revealing anything about the story. Since the sequel is scheduled to begin shooting this July, it's not surprising that Rowling isn't willing to throw out any juicy tidbits to the fans this early in the game. Nevertheless, with the script finished, now the movie's creative team is fully prepared to tackle her story, and Rowling could even start delving into Fantastic Beasts 3 if she wanted to.
While no specific plot details for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 have been disclosed yet, we do have a general idea of what's in store for the sequel. Following his dramatic unmasking in the first movie, Gellert Grindelwald will return to wreak havoc on the Wizarding World, forcing Newt Scamander to face the dark wizard again. Besides Eddie Redmayne reprising Newt and Johnny Depp reprising Grindelwald, the other players returning for Fantastic Beasts 2 include Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queen Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski and Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone.
The new faces in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 include Jude Law playing a younger Albus Dumbledore (who has already been established as one of Newt Scamander's teachers when he attended Hogwarts) and Green Room's Callum Turner as Newt's brother. Zoe Kravitz's Leta Lestrange, who cameoed in a photograph during the first movie, will also make her official debut. Rather than return to New York City, Fantastic Beasts 2 will primarily be set in Paris and the United Kingdom. And for those of you who enjoy these Wizarding World period stories, don't worry. Three more movies have already been announced, with the entire series taking place from 1926 to 1945, the year when Dumbledore and Grindelwald had their final duel.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 will cast its spell in theaters on November 16, 2018. While we wait for more news on how the sequel is progressing, be sure to check out our comprehensive movie guide to see when your most anticipated 2017 feature films are coming out.
